History of Image Awareness

Image Awareness began in 1969 as a result of what Lucille McAfee still refers to as a "lucky break." Lucille fell and in the words of her doctor broke her arm "like a little old lady." The break was humorous to her doctor, but not to Lucille who remembers how her grandmother had died from the complications of a broken hip. Lucille began supplementing with a wide range of GNLD products. To her surprise, the chronic fatigue which had plagued her most of her life disappeared. She was transformed from a woman plagued with numerous health complaints which the doctors never seemed to be able to do anything about to a dynamic individual who developed a world-wide business in nutritional sales.

In 1974 Lucille was joined by her son Jim McAfee. Jim graduated Summa Cum Laude from Westmont College in English Literature. This was followed by four years at Dallas Theological Seminary where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. Jim's graduate dissertation was on the subject of fasting. He not only conducted a historical study of fasting, but also engaged in research at Herbert M. Shelton's Natural Hygiene School in San Antonio where at that time they had conducted more fasts than anywhere else in the world.

In 1991 Jim became a Certified Clinical Nutritionist based on his graduate degree, many years of research and work in the field of nutrition, and the ability to pass the national exam. In 2005 Jim published his latest book, Your Body's Sign Language: Clues to Nutritional Well-Being. Jim is an accomplished speaker holding his audiences in rapt attention with his enthralling Powerpoint presentations.

The name for the corporation was inspired by Genesis 1:26: "Then God said, 'Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness.'" The mission of Image Awareness is to further the awareness of nutrition as an essential component of a satisfying and meaningful life.

We see nutrition as a part of a larger whole, an essential requirement to fulfill the plan and purpose God has for our lives. Nutrition is one of the laws of nature God has established. Violation of nutritional principles is fraught with the most severe of consequences. In the words of Weston Price, "Life in all its fullness is mother nature obeyed." The unbelievable complexity of the nutritional process is a testimony and witness to an intelligent creator and designer. The multitude of complex interrelationships in the world of nutritional biochemistry testifies to an underlying plan and purpose for the operation of the body.
